From Bamboowiki
April
- 4 - The Rufa is shooting, nothing from the Yellow Groove Yet. I did dig up a stray rhyzome from last year that was over 6 feet long, and attached were two shoots that looked like they had started to move. The one planting of Yellow Groove that I have up front has started shooting a week or two earlier in the past, so it may bring new growth early. I'm not sure though, as I severed new growth of this bamboo more than any other last Summer.
The P. Vivax looks like it took the most damage of anything (save for the Hetroclada that I have planted, they get almost completly wiped out every year), and I'm not sure if it will make it. It's very dark in color, and the new leaf buds appear to be brown. But I've seen new ones come from absolutly nowhere before, so who knows. I have no idea of what new growth occured below ground, it didn't jump like other bamboo has done in the past. The trench I dug last year did not get any visitors either. I hope the Vivax comes in strong and gives me 4-5 shoots.
- 23 - No shoots visible yet, but there are 5 days above 76 coming up this weekend, so we may see the plants move then.
- 26 - Planting 6 Phyllostachys aureosulcata gets it's first shoots of the year!
- 27 - Planting 12 Phyllostachys nuda and Planting 13 Phyllostachys nuda get their first new shoots of the season. Also, dug up two old Heteroclada projects and photographed the root systems.
- 29 - 4-6 Planting 3 Phyllostachys aureosulcata shoots discovered. Planting 6 Phyllostachys aureosulcata now has 17 total shoots, some past 6 inches.
May
- 6 - The Planting 14 Phyllostachys Vivax finally got a shoot. I think it may only get one this year, but I could be wrong. The two planter pots that I made up this year for last year's potted bamboo have not moved yet.
- 10 - The Planting 14 Phyllostachys Vivax gets a second, smaller shoot. One of the Yellow Grove Plantings has been dug up and hauled away to make room for a ramp off of my deck.
